What diet is right for you?

Follow my blog with Bloglovin What is the right diet for your constitution? By finding out your your metabolic type you may find that your digestive problems are resolved and your energy is enhanced. Metabolic typing in crucial for anybody who is experiencing autoimmune problems, Chronic fatigue, or cancer. Each person is biologically individual, non of us are the same, we all have unique supplementary needs due to the way out bodies metabolise food. Several metabolic ‘types’ have been found. The slow oxidiser, who finds it easy to metabolise fats, but harder to metabolise carbohydrates within the cells. The fast oxidiser has the opposite problem, they find it easy to metabolise carbohydrates and less easy to convert fat into energy. Both of these processes are vital to produce energy in the cell and need a good balance of Acetyl Co-A and Oxaloacetate in order for the citric acid cycle within each cell to produce the energy we need to function through the day. Therefore typically a slow oxidiser would be asked to eat more carbs and less fats (meats). The fast oxidiser will be asked to eat a higher fat diet and less carbs. This addresses the constitutional imbalance we may naturally have been born with. The other two ‘types’ are sympathetic dominant and parasympathetic dominant. This refers to our autonomic nervous system. Some people are dominant in the ‘fight or flight’ mode of control, which is the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system. Some may be dominant in the parasympathetic, which is the opposite, the calming, relaxing controls. These are what typically control our digestive system and glandular system. The sympathetic system speeds the heart up, the parasympathetic maintains the correct heart rate. Some people have inherited a tendency for the body to ‘switch on’ the sympathetic more quickly or visa versa. So within the metabolic type framework we end up with two types, sympathetic dominant and parasympathetic dominant. Some foods strengthen, support and stimulate one or the other of the cycles. A lot of people may be a mixed type or balanced. By taking the metabolic typing test, you will be given a diet sheet and advice on foods and supplements which will benefit your overall energy and digestion. OESTROGEN DOMINANCE - IS IT AFFECTING YOU
Oestrogen dominance occurs when there is an excess of oestrogen in relation to progesterone or testosterone.  This imbalance is caused by a number of factors, and the causes can differ between men and women, but the level of exposure to oestrogens appears to be on the rise, and this is due to a number of factors, chief among them being increases in overweight and obesity and, it’s thought, the impact of environmental oestrogens.  Men naturally produce smaller quantities of oestrogens than women.  However, they are equally prone to overweight and obesity, and exposed to the same level of environmental oestrogens too. It is very possible that everyone suffers a little from excess oestrogen, and for many men and women it can cause serious problems.

Living in a sea of oestrogen

Unfortunately, we live in an age where oestrogens are everywhere.  Our bodies make them, we take them in the form of medications, and we eat, drink and breathe them into the body.  Oestrogen-like compounds are found in food, air and water, plastic residues, pesticides, industrial waste products, exhaust fumes, soap products, carpeting, furniture and much more. A high-fat, high-dairy and low fibre diet also increases the amount of oestrogen in the body, and so does alcohol, excess insulin,  being overweight or obese, the contraceptive pill and HRT. You would literally have to live in a bubble to escape the onslaught of everyday oestrogens!

When oestrogen becomes imbalanced

Imbalanced oestrogen can cause a whole host of knock on effects in the body, ranging from the mildly irritating to the debilitating. What’s even more worrying is that over time, increased exposure to oestrogen can significantly increase your risk of chronic disease. Signs of oestrogen dominance in women are fairly well-documented, but the story is much less clear for men. As most men age, the level of oestrogen, oestrogen look-alikes and xenoestrogen toxins in their bodies rises. This assault is responsible for a variety of ailments.

T'ai Chi for health

T'ai Chi is often associated with older people, attracting those who want help with balance and mobility.  However, it is a robust martial art, which can be enjoyed by a wide age range.  I have been practicing since my 20's and have found so many health benefits.  It is 'meditation in movement', keeping the mind calm and stress free. It is also used as a martial application and can be used for fighting forms, which can be fun and aerobic. It is also exceptional as a rehabilitation or prevention of musculoskeletal problems.  The warm up exercises take in all of the main joints of the body and the stretches make sure you will be supple and injury free.  By practicing several times per week, anyone with arthritis, whether you are 16 or 60 will benefit from keeping your posture upright and strong.  We often think of body builders as strong, but in fact long muscles, stretched and toned provide us with the strongest, mobile body.  Yogis, ballerinas and T'ai Chi students can develop very strong physiques.  In fact I would say the are strong because the core is strong, and long muscles provide more strength overall than just pumping iron and making muscles bigger. For those of you who love sport and gym work, T'ai Chi offers isometric exercise, holding positions which strengthen the core. Martial arts are lots of fun to learn and calming the mind has to be good in this crazy world. Combining T'ai Chi with other sporting activities is a great balance.
